Rotated the tyres on the Defender because of 3mm difference between front and back - handling remains awful.
Had some unintended acceleration issues - Depressed the clutch and pulled over, moved floor mat backwards, set off again.

Saw the picture before reading the headline and thought "fun, somebody is posting about something I know! That's a rover!"
As for the handling, better than an 80's American car? I would call that normal awful. Or is it extra awful? I used to replace panhard bushings and adjust swivel housing preload on these things all the time. Aside from more obvious things like tie rods of course.

Sorry, I completely missed this comment! I've never driven a piece of 80's Americana, but if they tend to handle like an LSD infused rhinoceros with 5W30 diarrhoea then Yes. It's not so much that they have bad roadholding, but the first 5-10° of the steering wheel have no effect on what the wheels actually do, and the 'precipices' of corner grip seems to vary based on the cycle of the moon. All in all it's excellent off-road, if a little vague in muddy conditions, and with the proper rubber perfectly reasonable on-road when driven sensibly. An apex hunter it is not though.

Your description is quite apt. I think we're on the same page here.
